Acupuncture

In our acupuncture clinic, in Stockton on Tees,

We don’t treat a disease…

What matters to us is how your quality of life has been affected by your symptoms. Whether your condition has a name or not, whether what you experience is considered ‘normal’ or not, you will find the support you need to deal with what you experience as a problem.

…We treat people

Because we look at you as a whole person, we can make sense of all these seemingly disconnected symptoms. Each treatment is specifically tailored to you and will change as your condition evolves. And because your treatment is only one hour out of many, we also talk about making choices in your daily life that ‘nourish life’ and consistently improve your experience of life.

Close to the A66, our clinic in Stockton-on-Tees is conveniently located for people looking for acupuncture in Middlesbrough, acupuncture in Stockton on Tees or any of the surrounding areas in Teesside.

Who are our patients?

People who come to see us have chronic conditions and have been ‘through the mill’. Like you, our patients have seen their GP, maybe a consultant. They may have been given some medication such as painkillers, antidepressants, antibiotics or other pharmaceuticals. And they have found that those helped little or are worse than the disease itself!

They are just sick of the suffering. They are dreaming to have their ‘normal’ life back and that they have started to enjoy again the simple things they used to do, without having to plan around their health problem.

They want to find ways to be in control of their health problem rather than being controlled by it, and they are actively searching for methods or therapies that could help.

However, with so many messages out there, they often feel overwhelmed, and they aren’t quite sure what would be best for them. And this is where we can help!

‘Having suffered from constant headaches and migraines since my teens, I wanted to do something other than taking pills every day. A colleague told me about acupuncture and recommended Sabine.

I haven’t had a fully-fledged migraine since the first treatment! The daily headaches are recedingly rapidly with large stretches of the day with no headache at all.

I feel that the sessions with Sabine have empowered me to take control of my headaches and migraines rather than them controlling me.

Sabine is lovely, and the needles are painless!! As far as I am concerned, she is worth every penny!!’

How do we work?

When you come to see me, you can be sure that

1- I will look at you as a whole person. We don’t treat a disease, we treat people. That means I will spend some time asking you a lot of questions, not just about what is bothering you at the moment but about all areas of your health.

2- We will be looking at the root cause of your issues. Often this is forgotten in favour of settling down the symptoms. This is undoubtedly a crucial point, but if the root cause of the problem isn’t addressed too, it means you become dependent on the drug/herb/therapy to keep symptoms at bay, not so good if you are experiencing side effects. Or you will see the problem resurfacing again and again as it can be the case with migraines or recurring bladder infections.

3- You will get supported all the way during your treatment.

4- We will use needles but not just needles to help you on your way to recovery. We will talk about all the things you can do at home such as diet, lifestyle or stress reduction techniques so that you can establish the foundation of a strong health for years to come. If I feel you might need some specific support in other areas, I am also able to refer you to other practitioners in the Stockton on Tees and Middlesbrough areas.

‘I had some issues with fertility and had heard from several people and through some research which I had done that acupuncture could help improve the chances of being able to conceive.

I wanted to try acupuncture to see if it would make any difference for me and if it would increase my chances of being able to have a baby.  I believe that through the sessions with Sabine certainly contributed greatly to an eventual positive outcome. Acupuncture is a slow process, and while the second IVF cycle did not produce a positive outcome, the acupuncture work done for this also helped to contribute to the success of the third cycle.

The treatment is not painful as I had imagined it might be, and Sabine is excellent at putting you at your ease. As the weeks went by, I was able to recognise the feeling which the needles elicit. I found the process relaxing, and I did experience other unexpected benefits from the acupuncture treatment.’

What can we help with?

Although often thought only as a way of relieving pain, acupuncture has traditionally been used to treat a wide range of conditions (please click on the link to look at the research):

Nowadays, the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommends the use of acupuncture for the treatment of lower back pain, tension headache and migraine. The WHO (World Health Organisation) also lists a wide variety of diseases or disorders for which acupuncture therapy has been tested in controlled clinical trials.

In my clinic in Stockton on Tees, I have seen many patients with a variety of symptoms. If you are unsure if acupuncture can help you, don’t hesitate to give me a call and we will have a chat.

‘I choose to turn to acupuncture after hearing a radio interview and how it had helped a certain celebrity. I had suffered from IBS and acute stress for a number of years and found no improvement from more conventional methods. With some apprehension, I made my first appointment where we discussed my lifestyle and the acute symptoms I was experiencing. The results from my first session were outstanding. Literally, after the first session, it was like a weight had been lifted off my chest and the IBS symptoms subsided.

Further sessions allowed me to gain even further control, and I also developed a better understanding of how to look after myself; putting me in control. I still continue to with the treatment at a maintenance level, as I find the sessions very therapeutic, and it allows me to focus on maintaining my own well-being around the stresses and distractions of work. Acupuncture has changed my life, and I couldn’t recommend Sabine highly enough!’
